One of the most common questions in my inbox and DM’s is “Macy, what do I need to do to meet ______?”
I get it. You set big goals and you’re wondering what exactly you need to do to make sure you get there. We alllll do this.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that growth > goals.
Don’t get me wrong, goals are great, but who you become during the process is so much better.
The next time you’re working towards a goal, I want you to stop and ask yourself: Is this goal creating growth?
Who you become during the process of meeting your goals is much greater than what you’re doing.
Who you’re becoming – your growth – is where your focus should be.
I want to give 3 ways that you can start focusing on growth over goals:
1) Embrace Change
Growth brings change. Andddd that might be why you don’t want to focus on growth. Because it’s uncomfortable.
It’s human nature to want to improve, but also to resist change. Being aware of that is half the battle.
2) Believe in Yourself
In order to add value to yourself, you have to see value in yourself.
Typically, there is a direct correlation between how you think about yourself and the investments you make in yourself.
What you think about yourself will determine the investments that you make for yourself.
The personal growth that you have will not exceed your growth investment.
3) Layered Learning
Layered learning is the concept of how one life lesson starts to layer on top of another. Each lesson gets more insightful.
It takes A LOT of growing for a little bit of showing.
Thing about a hugeeee shade tree. Before it gets so big, roots have to grow for a LONG time before you see anything sprout.
You can’t force the tree to grow faster – it takes time. And the same is true for you.
You have to commit to being intentional with your growth everyday – pouring into yourself, investing in yourself.
Every. Single. Day.
Pulling for you always – MM
