In this episode 48 of the GUIDE Culture podcast, we bring back Charlie Schuetz to get his take on what to do when business is slow. We believe that knowing how to sell is ESSENTIAL, especially in times of adversity. Listen to hear about how to create sales activity and to improve your sales mindset!
Here’s a quick recap:
Being a salesperson is kind of like being on a rollercoaster.
There are peaks and valleys.
When you’re in those valleys, you have to create activity – often referred to around here as STIRRING THE POT.
Sales activity is when you are actively making phone calls, sending messages, connecting on social media, etc. A lot of times, it can be a follow up or a simple reach out to see how things are going.
When you start doing that activity, things will start happening. Charlie describes this as magic. ✨
A lot of times, we hear that people feel nervous about reaching out to people first.
We get it – it’s totally normal to have those feelings – especially right now when there’s so much uncertainty in the world.
At the same time, you have to have the mentality that you are reaching out to SERVE people. Not just to earn a buck. ????
When you have the right heart about it, it will feel natural.
If you’re nervous about reaching out to someone, we first encourage you to sit back and think about what you’re doing.
What are you selling? Do you truly believe in it? Can it help people?
If you answered yes and you do believe it and KNOW that it can benefit people, Charlie’s advice is to just rip off the bandaid and DO IT – reach out to people.
Once you start, it will become more natural and you will start to gain traction.
Other sales activity aside from reaching out to people involves putting yourself out there – attending events, joining a club, getting involved with your community, etc.
All of these things will create activity in your business. You will start meeting new people and creating new connections, which will ultimately lead to sales!
Something important to remember through all of this is that you have to have a sales mentality.
Simply posting content and talking about a product to see if someone will reach out to you is not the mentality of a salesperson. That’s more of an ambassador.
This is 100% mindset.
You have to be confident and know that what you have is worth SELLING.
Mindset is typically the missing piece and a lot of it involves your input and your environment.
Are you surrounding yourself with the right type of people? Are you reading or listening to the right things?
If you’re going through a weird season in your business, take it as an opportunity to learn and grow yourself – read a new book or listen to a podcast to get your mindset right.
Also, take the time to check in on people with a genuine heart. Only good things can come out of it when you approach it correctly!
